Visit to Old Nauvoo

During the first weekend in May, my parents came for a visit. My cousin was getting married in Nauvoo, so we decided to head up there for a few days and see the temple and some sites. The weather was on and off, and the food left something to be desired, but we countered it with family, fresh baked pie, fudge, prairie diamonds, beautiful scenery, and good 'ole fashioned window shopping! Thanks Mom and Dad for letting us come with you! We loved it! (I totally didn't get any good shots of all of us together mom, sorry! I hope you enjoy the ones I did get though.) This was one of the views from the wagon ride we went on through some of the older parts of the city.
Can you say gorgeous? The tulips were at their peak and David couldn't resist comparing and contrasting color schemes and plant selection. I just enjoyed looking at them, so we were both happy!
Check out those clouds. The big sky is one of the things that I love most about Missouri!

A little visit to the horses with trying to get some shots of the temple. Ahh, so picturesque!
I love how the temple sits up on top of the hill. If you haven't been to see it yet, I strongly urge you to try!
I love how all of the water towers say the name of the city on them. It's a Midwest thing.

Here's David and Caleb in the back of the Durango my parents rented for the trip. Caleb loved being able to sit next to Daddy for so long.
"Would you say you have a plethora of pinatas?...." ?????
Thanks goodness I forgot my swimming suit and the world didn't have to see this, along my pastie, white legs! The boys had a blast swimming with their dad though, and I had fun watching them.
My husband, the tree hugger. Nothing like teaching 'em young!
Here's Jake at the science museum, looking down at the road underneath. After Nauvoo, we went and did some fun stuff here in St. Louis. and the Science Center is always a favorite!

My son, the pilot! He could teach you a thing or two about yaw, pitch, and roll!

Shelby the Turtle

David came home from work today with a Ornate Box Turtle. (we googled it and determined that's what it was) He found him in the woods at work and brought him home in a bucket to show Caleb. He was so cute and Caleb got attached pretty quickly.
We decided that he should be named Shelby. We realized a little too late, however, that you should never name a wild animal. When we told Caleb we couldn't keep him he started to cry and kept saying over and over, "But I really like him." It was so sad and ALMOST convinced me to adopt a turtle.

Long story short, we explained that Shelby wouldn't be happy in a bucket and that we needed to let him go. Caleb argued with the fact that he could live in his shell instead of the bucket, but we convinced him he needed a bit more than just his shell to be happy.

This picture is when we let him go. It's blurry because I swear he was coming to GET me, and I jumped! Anyway, we let him go in the woods behind our house and have now officially promised Caleb that he can have a pet when we move to our new house. Does anyone know how long those little frogs that swim in water live?
So long Shelby! Have a nice life!
